About Sleep Apnea in Wichita, KS
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition that causes pauses in breathing while sleeping. These pauses may last 10 seconds or more and cause you to wake up over and over again. The result is an inability to experience deep, restorative sleep. People with sleep apnea often feel exhausted all day long, no matter how much sleep they get. They may struggle to focus or concentrate. They are also at risk for serious medical issues.
What are the Symptoms of Sleep Apnea?
Loud snoring
Pauses in breathing while asleep
Frequent waking up overnight
Gasping for air during sleep
Dry mouth upon waking
Sore throat upon waking
Morning headaches
Daytime exhaustion and drowsiness
Irritability and mood swings
What are Sleep Appliances?
Sleep apnea oral appliances are custom-made mouthpieces that are designed to guide the lower jaw forward, opening the seal that commonly occurs between the tissues in the back of the mouth and upper airway. This allows a natural airflow to take place, preventing respiratory blockage during your sleep. These appliances are comfortable, non-invasive, and highly effective.
Can a sleep appliance replace my CPAP machine?
Yes! Many of our patients find an oral sleep apnea device extremely effective at helping them breathe at night. We recommend the MicrO₂® Sleep and Snore Device for patients with proper diagnosis when appropriate. Why bother suffering each night by wearing bulky CPAP equipment, when you can comfortably rest with a small oral appliance?
